Job Description

Position Overview:

Mercy, a Catholic, college-preparatory high school dedicated to empowering young women through faith, academic excellence, and leadership, seeks a passionate and collaborative English Teacher . The ideal candidate will inspire a love of reading and writing, foster critical thinking, and support the mission of Catholic education while creating a positive, engaging classroom environment for young women.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach English courses in literature and composition at the high school level

  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned to curriculum standards

  • Assess student learning and provide timely feedback

  • Foster strong reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills

  • Create a classroom culture that supports the academic and personal growth of young women

  • Collaborate with colleagues in curriculum development and interdisciplinary learning

  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff

  • Participate in school activities, meetings, and professional development

  • Support and uphold the Catholic mission and values of the school

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or related field

  • Valid state teaching certification (or ability to obtain certification)

  • Commitment to the mission of Catholic education

  • Strong classroom management and communication skills

  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and families

  • Experience teaching high school English preferred

  • Coaching opportunities available

Preferred Qualities:

  • Passion for working in an all-girls learning environment

  • Ability to integrate faith, values, and character development into instruction

  • Willingness to contribute to the broader school community through clubs, activities, or coaching
