Job Description

Longwell Partners is a full-service, pro-democracy communications firm based in Washington, DC. We specialize in high-profile political projects—including The Bulwark, Home of the Brave, and Republican Voters Against Trump—and we're looking for a Researcher to support our work as we expand our research capacity and prepare for the 2026 midterms.

If you follow politics obsessively, love digging for information others overlook, and want your work to drive real-world impact, we want to hear from you.

About the Role

As a Researcher at Longwell Partners, you'll support a range of research needs across political strategy, communications, and investigations. That means tracking political candidates, donors and organizations, surfacing relevant news and public records, and distilling complex information into clear findings that the communications team can act on.

This role spans the full range of Longwell Partners' research work. You'll move between projects and research types depending on our current priorities. You are relentless in your pursuit of information, you know when something doesn't add up, and you recognize when what you've found is something our communications team needs to hear about.

Your Responsibilities

  • Conduct research into political actors, organizations, donors, and policy issues to inform strategy and communications across Longwell Partners projects.
  • Monitor political news and relevant developments in real time to identify emerging stories, rapid-response opportunities, and new angles for ongoing work.
  • Analyze public records — including IRS 990 filings, FEC disclosures, corporate registrations, and other government data — to surface relevant facts and relationships.
  • Produce clear, well-sourced research memos and summaries that colleagues can act on quickly.
  • Assist with media research, including sourcing past statements, video clips, and published reporting on key political actors.
  • Support public records requests and other investigative research tasks as needed.

What We're Looking For

  • 1–3 years of experience in political research, journalism, advocacy, or a closely related field, or someone who can show strong research work in a relevant setting.
  • Sharp political instincts and a solid understanding of the current political and media landscape; you follow the news closely and know the key players.
  • Strong attention to detail and clear writing; you can take something complicated and explain it simply and accurately
  • Ability to manage multiple research tasks simultaneously without sacrificing quality.
  • Familiarity with research tools and public records sources, or a demonstrated ability to learn fast.
  • Ability to be in the office (downtown DC) five days a week. This is not a remote or hybrid opportunity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on experience with databases such as LexisNexis, FEC filings, or IRS records.
  • Comfort using AI tools to make research faster and more thorough.
  • Background in political campaigns, investigative journalism, communications, or public interest work.
  • Familiarity with the broader landscape of politically active organizations, dark money networks, and nonprofit governance.

Why Join Us?

  • Salary range: $55,000 – $70,000, commensurate with experience
  • 401(k) matching program
  • 100% covered medical insurance
  • Metro-accessible, downtown DC location
  • Opportunities to learn, grow, and take on more responsibility within a mission-driven, high-performance team

How to Apply

Please send your resume and a brief cover letter to jobs@longwellpartners.com. In your cover letter, please tell us why you're interested in Longwell Partners and how your experience makes you a strong fit for this role. "Easy Apply" is not your friend here! We will consider email applications much more seriously than an Easy Apply application.

We look forward to hearing from you!
